Universal Helicopters

Universal Helicopters Newfoundland Limited (UHNL) is based in Newfoundland & Labrador with corporate headquarters in Goose Bay, and currently operates two Bell 407's, ten Bell 206L-R's, one Bell 206L-4, two Eurocopter AS350 BA's and one Eurocopter AS350 B. UHNL performs all it's own day-to-day maintenance as well as major overhauls and airframe refurbishments.

UHNL is a 100% Newfoundland Company as defined by the regulations of the Department of Development, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. While operating primarily in Newfoundland and Labrador with operations sometimes extending into the Ungava Peninsula and the Arctic, our company holds an International Operating Certificate and has completed several contracts in Greenland.

UHNL began operations in 1963 as Universal Helicopters (NFLD) Ltd. and all of our existing personnel have had previous managerial and operational experience in providing support in all facets of the helicopter industry.

Currently UHNL has some 35 employees, all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, many of whom have in excess of 15 years experience with the company. All maintenance personnel are graduates of the Gander District Vocational School environment and almost half of UHNL's pilot staff are former graduates of our own Flight Training School.

We have been operating helicopters for decades in some of the most challenging conditions known. Subsequently, all of our pilots have extensive local area knowledge and experience in operating in a maritime climates as well as being conversant with long line slinging, mineral exploration support and mountain flying techniques.

UHNL's corporate head office, main stores and accounting services are situated in Goose Bay, Labrador with other bases situated at St. John's, Pasadena and Gander. Each location has permanent base personnel and hangar support facilities for year round operations and maintenance. UHNL performs all it's own day today maintenance as well as major overhauls and airframe refurbishments. UHNL is also capable of conducting third party maintenance and refurbishments including aircraft painting. UHNL is a certified Bell Customer Service Facility.

UHNL has had 4 decades of experience in maintaining and overhauling our aircraft in support of remote field operations. With the completion of our new 900 sq. meter facility in Goose Bay, this centre has now become the prime maintenance location for UHNL. Running maintenance as well as major airframe and component overhauls and inspections are carried out here improving efficiency and service to our regional clients.
